Dr Annika Oksa - Veterinarian
- MANZCVS (Pathology)
- PhD Candidate
Dr Annika knew she wanted to be a veterinarian since she was 3-years old and constantly drawing pictures of horses. Since her graduation from Murdoch University in Perth in 2005 Dr Annika has completed an internship at Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre, and a residency in Veterinary Pathology at Murdoch University. Dr Annika has also completed further training in ultrasound and medical oncology. Her other veterinary passion is canine reproduction, and she has been breeding and showing her own Pharaoh Hounds and Portuguese Podengos very successfully in Australia and overseas.
Currently Dr Annika is completing a PhD through the University of Queensland researching canine cancer vaccines, and sees patients on a part-time basis at Murrumba Downs.
When not busy with research and work, Dr Annika enjoys spending time with her two children and her dogs. She also manages to squeeze in time to teach group fitness classes in Dayboro!
Tanika Maynard - Head Veterinary Nurse
Tanika started at VetMD in 2015 and has been with the team since. She is a highly skilled and compassionate nurse with a love for Neonatal, Internal Medicine, Canine Reproduction and Emergency Medicine. Tanika is very loved by our patients and clients and we will often be asked "Is Tanika working today?"
Tanika's weaknesses are German Shepherds and rescue/surrender cases. She is often the first one to put up her hand to take on surrendered animals and has raised a litter of puppies, a litter of kittens and taken on four rescued cats as her own.
Outside of work Tanika loves spending her time with her two German Shepherd Duke (pictured) and Safia and her cranky-faced cat Nova (pictured). She is also currently studying Bachelor of Nursing Science. How she juggles it all we will never know!
